Swimming

rooted in Water
Swimming in Air While Rooted in Water is a physical collage series which utilizes elements of choreographed movement, large body-sculpture imagery, film, photography, and installation in a durational capacity. It weaves together the expressions of both our conscious and subconscious experiences within the feminine journey and the raw, intrinsic, and ingrained forms that circulate and penetrate our collective initiation into and throughout womanhood. Exploiting personal narratives, gathered stories, and subverted images, Swimming in Air While Rooted in Water exposes the vulnerability and power of exploring and owning our multi-dimensional female psyche.
Through a series of vignettes presented over the course of a year Babette DeLafayette cultivates a personal practice of sustainability, duration, and exploitation.
